Content Warnings

Before you read the warnings, here is why I write what I write:None of the difficult and bad things that happen in the story were written lightly — everything that happens was written for a reason. Where there is sorrow, it is a backdrop to joy; where there is pain, it permits the chance to heal; and where there are ambiguities, and uncertainties, they exist because the things that are most meaningful in life are often unsure, or bittersweet.Everything that happens builds toward a story that, to the best of my ability, speaks with sensitivity and nuance about the humanity we all have in common. What is depicted is not endorsed — I don't write the events I want to happen, but that need to happen. I write to tell a story that shows a little about what it means to be human, with all the challenges, and triumphs, that go into living a considered life. That's all I can say, really. The rest comes down to you: what meanings you choose to read into my writing, and how much you trust me to lead you through the story. For those who have experienced traumas that still linger, I hope these warnings help you avoid unnecessary pain.

Content Overview

In addition to judging what requires a warning and what doesn't, the great difficulty with content warnings is that how a thing is portrayed matters just as much as what is being portrayed. Writing that is inconsequential to one person may be devastating to another, and subjects one person considers handled well may be looked upon poorly by another.I cannot identify all the content that you may need warned about ahead of time. There will be things that I have overlooked — not because I didn't care, but because I cannot know you as well as you know yourself. I have tried my best to identify what I think you may want to be warned about. If you become aware of a content warning that should be included here, please send me an email – noting the chapter(s) the warning applies to – and I'll add it in the appropriate section. One final word: remember, this list is only the bad. There is good in Saphienne's story, too.

Song of the Wild Knight – Song of the Squire, by L. J. Amber

How can Elly become a knight? She isn’t ready. She isn’t quick, she isn’t graceful, and the other squires dance around her, winning every match.Behind everyone’s perfect smiles, Elly feels like the elves are laughing at her — a lumbering half-elf woman, with ridiculous glasses.Worst of all is Nyuvorlas. He’s swift, he’s deft, and he’s the kind of grinning, vicious bully who shouldn’t be knighted. Thanks to him, Elly knows she’ll never be good enough, never be welcome......And the way things are, she’ll never know companionship, either.

Yet in the depths of the forest, a mysterious woman has taken an interest in the half-elf. And if Ceistyl has her way, Elly will realise her own strength, see her own beauty, and gain the self-worth she always deserved.A lot can change in a single, wild night.Song of the Wild Knight — Song of the Squire is a slow-boil sapphic fantasy about ugly ducklings, the people who love them, and what it takes to love ourselves.

★★★★★ "Despite this being their first novel, the writing is terrific, with superb descriptors and emotional depth that makes the reader feel every word and moment throughout the novel ... Amber's a talent to watch."★★★★★ "We see Elly not just explore new territory physically but also emotionally ... It’s touching and yet playful and I found myself really rooting for Elly, and seeing her in myself. An genuinely incredible debut by L J Amber ..."★★★★ "I felt the author did a wonderful job pulling us into Elly's world. She made me want to see Elly succeed and learn to love herself ... The way the author described things made me feel like I was there."★★★★★ "The relationships ... felt very natural and the romance scenes never felt cheap ... Clever worldbuilding explores the world the characters live in and how that shapes them, without being exposition-heavy or feeling clumsy. Overall, an engaging and very fun story with real heart to it ..."

Who are you?

I’m LJ. I write fantasy fiction for adults, and adult fantasy fiction. You can read my work for free in many places, including Archive Of Our Own, Wattpad, Royal Road, WebNovel, and Tumblr. I sometimes publish novels on Amazon.

What are you doing?

I’m telling stories for adults using accessible language. They’re easy to read, and they deal with mature topics.Right now, I’m writing The Elf Who Would Become A Dragon. You’ll be able to read chapters before they're released to the public by becoming my patron — and where those chapters feature sex, my patrons can read the uncensored versions.

Your stories feature sex?

If you’re like me, you don’t want stories without a deeper meaning, and you don’t want meaningless sex scenes. I only write sex scenes that are authentic to my characters — strong characters, characters that are worth getting to know. But I don't shy away from writing sex scenes when they serve the story.

Where can I get in touch with you?

The best way to get my attention is by messaging me through Patreon, but I can also be reached on Discord, by email, or on Bluesky.
